Spring and Summer have been a long time coming to our neck of the woods this year. Winter was pretty fierce and seemed to drag out forever. We are still battling the elements, just like everywhere else however. In fact last night, after a shoot down in the amazing White Earth Valley, I could see my breath in the air. Seriously? It’s June 11th!
But in a nutshell, things are going faster and faster around here. We’ve started rodeo/ranch rodeo season and it’s so good to see all of my friends from the various associations and events after a winter of everyone holing up at home. Smiles and hand shaking everywhere. I enjoyed capturing experienced cowboys on young horses and the issues that ensue during a fast paced ranch rodeo. We laughed, we giggled, we groan and we cheered and encouraged everyone! There are no people better than the people who compete in this state. Be it ranch rodeo or regular association rodeo, they are fantastic.
Last evening, I was introduced to newly born babies that arrived during the off season, met new spouses and SOs. We discussed horses, cattle, trailers, the oil fields, the roads, the hard winter, the wet spring. We laughed and told dirty jokes. Played with little puppies, and encouraged the kids in all of their random games and good natured wildness. I was blessed to be able to photograph one of my all time favorite children and friends Kylie after her victory in the White Earth Pageant. And I gave Marty, her father a lot of grief now that he’s going to be moved into the position of being her right hand stable man. =0) And Jenn, his wife…I think it’s set in just how busy she is going to be keeping Kylie up on all of the work and appearances she’s going to be making over the next year! But they will do it and do it well!

We even stopped in at Ponchos. That was my first time. It was truly a different experience! If you’ve never been to Ponchos…you have to do it just once. Seriously. It “ain’t purty folks,” but it does qualify as entertaining! LOL I think I need to go back there with a camera. From the busted beam overhead to the slanted and I thought questionable floor, a person certainly has plenty to look at while they are there!
Here’s a toast to a great start of the summer season.

Who are any of the rest of us to judge anyone else?
Most of us can not listen or want to listen to the truth
of what someone else might have to say to them. So..in
the meaning of keeping things quite and calm in homes and
households and work places, little white lies are told. And they
build. Soon, it becomes a way of life. Not wanting to rock the
boat, or cause conflict. Soon, it balloons. But the thing is
that it’s more than one at fault. There takes two. There takes one
who fears, and one who might cause fear.
No one can blame one person without blaming themselves.
God is the God of second chances. And everyone deserves
an honest chance at a second chance.

Yesterday, when I got home from helping some friends and touring the flooded areas to see the awful damage first hand (You really have no idea until you physically see it first hand!) I came home to a lovely gift from God. Snoopy finally had her baby. He’s beautiful. LONG LONG legs. Keep in mind, this little guy is not out of my stallion Whistler, but rather out of a bucking stallion owned by a great friend who cared for my mare when I did not have room for her. He’s a big powerful roan stallion and I adore him. And…me being me…I like my horses a little on the rough side. And so does my son. Hopefully, if things all pan out, this will be Little Man’s rope horse. The only thing I would change is that it would be a filly rather than a stud colt, as I would have LOVED to have crossed it to my stallion Whistler.
But I’m happy with this little guy. He should roan out nicely and have a great friendly willing mind and very athletic body.
